Introduction

Since August 2009, Christian Action SHINE Centre (located in Tuen Mun and Jordan) has provided support services for ethnic minorities and local organizations for archieving social integration and racial hamony.


Our Aims

- Empower ethnic minorities to better integrate and contribute to the wider community
- Promote a more racially harmonious and inclusive society
- Like the sun, we SHINE on  Services for Harmonious Intergration & Neighbourhood EMpowerment


Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Regulation.

With a view to combating the COVID-19 epidemic, the Government will impose stringent measures

and prohibit any group gathering of more than four persons in any public place.  Stay at home,

avoid crowded places and maintain social distancing.

CE visits ethnic minorities

Chief Executive Carrie Lam visited several ethnic minority grassroots families in Yau Tsim Mong district on 1 March 2020. She gave them face masks, daily necessities and leaflets with health information prepared in the languages they are familiar with. The Chief Executive appealed to the whole community, regardless of their background and race to fight the disease together.

Cultural Highlights (Pakistan)
Geographical Information

Total area is 880,940 sq km. Pakistan borders with India in the south east, with China in the north. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the north west and Iran to the west.

Population of Pakistan: 178,252,000 (2012). Ethnicity: Punjabi, Pashtun, Sindhi, Sariaki, Muhajirs, Balochi and others.

Urdu and English, as well as local dialects Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, Saraiki.

Cuisines

Pakistani cuisine varies greatly from region to which reflects the country's ethnic and cultural diversity. Some are more similar to the cuisines of Northern India which can be highly spicy but some involves the use of mild aromatic spices less and oil. Blending local and foreign recipes, mixed use of spices is common in Pakistani.

Clothes

Shalwar Kameez is the national dress of Pakistani which consists of long shirt and long, loose fitting trousers. When Muslim women wear the salwar kameez, they usually wear a long scarf (called hijab) around head or neck. Hijab is given meaning of modesty, privacy and morality.

Festivals

Ramadan is in the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, Pakistani Muslims will conduct fasting from sunrise to sunset, attend mosques more frequently and discipline self. After Ramaden, Chand Raat and Two Eid celebrations will be followed, marking the end of the month of Ramadan. There are also other religious based festivals: Milaad un Nabi, Muharram, Jashn-e-Baharan, Holi, Nowruz, Christmas.  Holi is celebrated among Pakistani Hindus whereas Christmas among the Pakistani Christians. The country also celebrates Independence day on 14 August each year.

Religion

Muslim and some others are Christian and Hindu.
